15th Annual Connecticut Critics Circle Awards

The 15th Annual Connecticut Critics Circle Awards were announced Monday, June 27, in a ceremony at Seven Angels Theatre in Waterbury. Highlights included a congratulatory letter from Connecticut governor M. Jodi Rell and a legislative proclamation honoring the Circle's anniversary.

The prestigious Tom Killen Award for contribution to Connecticut theater was given to Michael Wilson, artistic director of Hartford Stage. A special Award of Recognition was bestowed on Joanne Woodward, artistic director of the Westport Country Playhouse, for her role in the preservation and renovation of that historic theater.

Other awards for outstanding accomplishments in the 2004-05 season are:

Musical: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Goodspeed Musicals)

Actress/play: Alyssa Bresnahan in A Moon for the Misbegotten (Long Wharf)

Actor in a play: Tom Hewitt in Travesties (Long Wharf)

Actress in a musical (tie): Christiane Noll in Mack and Mabel (Goodspeed)

Jacquelyn Piro in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Goodspeed)

Actor in a musical: Noah Racey in Where’s Charley? (Goodspeed)

Direction/play: Gregory Boyd for Travesties (Long Wharf)

Direction/musical: Julie Arenal for Hair (Downtown Cabaret)

Choreography: Patti Colombo for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Goodspeed)

Set design: Lee Savage for The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow (Yale)

Lighting design: Jennifer Tipton for A Moon for the Misbegotten (Long Wharf)

Costume design: Linda Fisher for The School for Husbands (Westport Country Playhouse)

Sound design: Hilary Charnas for The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow (Yale)

Ensemble performance: The cast of Hair (Downtown Cabaret)

Roadshow: My Fair Lady (Hartford Stage)

Debut award: Dan McCabe in Kimberly Akimbo (TheaterWorks)
